HTML to PDF, made from the file alone

A web page file, not a web address

Drop an .html file on the convert page, a page saved from a browser or a report a program wrote, and it is laid out as a PDF of real text that can be searched and copied from. It is made from the file alone. No web address is opened, and nothing the file points to on the internet is fetched, not a style sheet, a font, a picture or a frame, so nothing in it reaches anyone else's server.

Scripts, frames and form fields are taken out

Before the page is laid out, its scripts are removed, never run, and so are embedded pages and objects, video and sound, SVG drawings and form fields; the record lists what was taken out. A page whose words only its scripts would write has nothing of its own to put on a page, so it is refused rather than made into blank pages, and the message says what to do instead. A picture written into the file itself is drawn; one the page would fetch from elsewhere is not, and the words written for it, if it has any, stand in its place, as a browser shows them. A photo written into the file is drawn upright, as a browser shows it, and what the camera noted beside it, such as where it was taken, is left out of the PDF. Links come out as their words, not as links.

A document's layout, not a browser's

The page is laid out by the PDF engine's own reading of HTML and CSS, in its own typefaces rather than the page's. It knows headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, sizes, colours and borders, but not everything a browser does: boxes set side by side, floated or in columns are stacked one under another, and positioned or transformed ones stay where they fall, so a design built that way comes out plainer than on screen, and the record names what it found. A word or an address too long for its line is broken across lines rather than running off the page. Emoji are drawn in one colour, in a typeface made for them, and a character none of its typefaces can draw is refused rather than left as an empty box.

How much at once

One conversion takes up to 50 files, 32 MB of them in all, and each file up to the size your plan uploads. For more files, convert them in batches and join the PDFs with Merge PDF. The PDF it makes holds no more pages than your plan allows in one document.

The record

The PDF says how it was made, in the record it carries and in your account's trail. For each file it names the kind, the fingerprint, and what was taken out of it, and that nothing it points to was fetched. The files you send are kept only until the conversion has answered; the PDF is kept with your documents like any other, and deleted after 90 days, or whenever you erase it. What a download costs is on the pricing page.
